Anna Beholds The King

Mixed Media on Wood | Tissue Paper and Mixed Media | 8 x 10 inches

Anna Beholds The King is a reflection on a sacred moment — the moment when a lifetime of faith, waiting, and devotion meets the fulfillment of a promise.

Inspired by the prophetess Anna in Luke 2:36–38, this piece captures the quiet strength of a woman who faithfully waited for the redemption of Israel. After years of prayer, fasting, and serving God in the temple, Anna encountered the infant Jesus and immediately recognized Him as the promised Messiah. Her long-awaited moment had arrived.

I created this painting as a meditation on those seasons of life when we carry a hope or calling deep within us — when we wait for the purpose we have always sensed to finally unfold. Anna’s story reminds us that waiting is not wasted. God was faithful in every unseen moment, preparing her to recognize the very thing she had spent her life anticipating.

Through layers of tissue paper and mixed media on wood, I explored the tension between hiddenness and revelation — the beauty of what is formed beneath the surface before it is fully revealed. The textures and layers reflect the passage of time, perseverance, and the depth that comes through a life faithfully lived.

Anna Beholds The King is an invitation to consider the sacred moments we are waiting for, and to remember that faithfulness, even in the quiet seasons, is never overlooked. Like Anna, we may discover that the promise we have been waiting for is closer than we realize.
